“The first-year events are great, both social and career wise. The society ran many opportunities and activities to engage with freshers, even during the pandemic. And they distributed lots of resources for applications. Plus, there are a variety of competitions to get involved in as a first-year student!”

“The society has organised multiple events to help first years feel more comfortable settling into university. Despite the pandemic, I have been able to network with numerous law firms, gain exposure to what a legal career entails, and socialise and learn from older students.”

The UBLC has run a number of first-year specific events and this has increased because of the growing awareness of first-year schemes and how they can lead to vacation schemes or training contracts. The best first year specific activity we have in place is the UBLC Parenting Scheme.

Everything that we have done as a society has been with the overarching objective of bringing our members together to enjoy each other’s company in the limited time that we have during our busy law school terms.

With two first-year representatives being voted into the executive committee every year, the society ensures that first-year students are not neglected. From a very early stage as a first year, I was aware of what the society was and the various events it organised.
